The MAIB supports the Tasmanian community through sponsorship of events and initiatives that promote positive health outcomes and invest in the leadership development of Tasmanians. 

Tasmanian Community Achievement Awards

The Tasmanian Community Achievement Awards aim to encourage, acknowledge and reward the valuable contributions that individuals, groups, communities and businesses are making throughout Tasmania. 

As part of the Tasmanian Community Achievement Awards, the MAIB has provided sponsorship of the MAIB Disability Achievement Award since 2007, which recognises people living with a disability who are actively influencing and contributing to the community as well as achieving their personal goals. 

Each of these individuals contribute, influence and achieve in the areas of sport, art, study, community services and/or education despite their own personal challenges. T

The MAIB Disability Achievement Award recognises these motivated and inspirational role models and celebrates their contribution to the community.

2023 also saw the introduction of the MAIB Community Safety Award to the Tasmanian Community Achievement Awards.

Tasmanian Community Achievement Awards

2023 MAIB Disability Achievement Award - David Wood 

The 2023 MAIB Disability Achievement Award celebrated David Wood. 

David is overcoming and learning to live with physical, emotional and psychological challenges associated with his accident and spinal cord injury.

David has overcome significant barriers, achieving in volunteering, education, employment and motivational speaking. 

He balances working two jobs and volunteering across multiple community spaces, in addition to being a Dad. 

David has delivered a spinal safe education program to primary and high school students, and other community organisations. 

He is coach of the first Tasmanian Wheelchair Rugby Team, creating inclusive opportunities and promoting physical wellness through his coaching activities, volunteer work and clothing brand for people living with a spinal cord injury. 

MAIB Community Safety Award winner - Rotary Youth Driver Awareness

The 2023 MAIB Community Safety Award celebrated Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA). 

RYDA makes a substantial impact on road safety in Tasmania. 

Since 2006, this program has been a cornerstone of Grade 10 education, with 5,000+ students across 60 schools attending annually. 

Run by Rotary Tasmania (and assisted by government funding), RYDA offers a one-day road safety program addressing attitude, awareness, and responsible driving behaviours. 

RYDA's dedicated facilitators, including professionals and volunteers, provide students with practical knowledge that extends beyond the program. 

By instilling a sense of responsibility and awareness, RYDA plays a vital role in reducing crashes and deaths among young drivers, ultimately contributing to safer roads and communities.

Tasmanian Young Achiever Awards

MAIB Excellence in Leadership Award

For the first time the MAIB will sponsor the Tasmanian Young Achiever Awards.  The nominations for 2025 are currently open.

The MAIB Excellence in Leadership Award recognises young people showing strong leadership ability, thinking creatively and acting decisively.  Many young people in our community help motivate and inspire others to aim high.  Across community groups, business, government, education, health and emergency services, effective young leaders are emerging by displaying initiative, innovation, a desire for personal devlopment and a commitment to excellence. 

Their positive approach to life and their influential and outstanding contributions to driving change and making a difference within our society are a credit to themselves and their communities. 

The MAIB Excellence in Leadership Award gives special recognition to honour, celebrate and encourage youth leadership.
