The MAIB provides insurance cover for those who are injured in a motor accident. Funding for this compensation is provided by Tasmanian motorists through the payment of compulsory premiums on registered motor vehicles.
We pay for a range of treatment and support services for eligible people who have been injured regardless of fault.
We assist:
If you have been injured in, and/or received medical treatment following a motor accident, you can make a claim with us. We pay for a range of treatment and support services to help you in your recovery after an accident.
If you have lost a family member in a motor accident we can assist with the expenses associated with the funeral. Financial support may also be available for dependants.
We can also assist with the payment of counselling services for family members under certain circumstances.
To make a claim, please contact us on 1800 006 224 and we will assist you with your claim. A Claims Officer will support you to lodge your claim and provide you with any information you may need.
There are some cases in which we may be unable to accept your claim. These cases are specifically detailed in the Motor Accidents (Liabilities and Compensation) Act 1973 and Motor Accidents (Liabilities and Compensation) Regulations 2020.

What happens next?
Once you have lodged your claim, we will contact you within 5 working days of receipt of your claim to notify you of the progress of your claim.
If you were the driver or owner of a vehicle involved in an accident, you can notify us of the accident circumstances by completing a Notice of Accident.
There are three ways you can lodge a Notice of Accident:
If you were injured in, and/or received medical treatment due to a motor accident, you will also need to complete an Application for Benefits to submit a claim.
If your personal injury was caused, or contributed to by the fault of another driver, common law compensation can be sought. Common law compensation is a lump sum payment that recognises the long term impact the accident has on your life.
If you believe you may be entitled to common law compensation for personal injury you should seek legal advice without delay as there are time limits which apply.
